すり鉢
A compact mortar and pestle made in Niigata Prefecture.
This elegant mortar and pestle is made of high-grade stainless steel making it both durable and rustproof. Its compact size allows it to easily fit in the palm of the hand. It comes with a silicone pad, which provides a non-slip surface during use and which also functions as a cover, snugly fitting over the egg-shaped pestle and any other contents, to enable easy transport of the set. The pestle is made of hinoki, a species of cypress native to Japan and widely used as a material for houses, furniture and tools due to its innate antibacterial and insect repellent properties.
Size: H4.8 cm x Ø9.3 cm
The central Chūbu region is predominantly mountainous, home to the rugged Japan Alps with coasts on both the Sea of Japan and the Pacific Ocean. The region's history has been shaped by its strategic position between the great cities of Kyoto and Tokyo with Nagoya at its heart. Niigata lies to the north while Mt Fuji can be found in the south in Shizuoka Prefecture.
