Kohiki Yunomi Tea Cup

An expertly crafted kohiki tea cup from Nara Prefecture.

£66 per item

Made with clay sourced from the countryside of Nara Prefecture, these kohiki tea cups are made by Japanese potter Ogata Atsushi. Kohiki, also known as kofuki, is a pottery technique that enhances the surface of ceramics by covering clay slabs with a white liquid clay mixture known as a slip, then stretching the slabs to create cracks and distortions before covering them with a transparent glaze and firing them in a kiln. Ogata uses a combination of a self-built climbing (noborigama) and gas kiln to create his pieces, which obtain a striking but warm appearance.

Due to the handmade nature of these products, each piece is one of a kind and there will be individual differences.
Not microwave or dishwasher safe.
