This set of placemats is made of Tosa washi, a type of thin yet durable Japanese paper, the production of which is a tradition in the town of Tosa in Kōchi Prefecture. The placemats are made using a technique called rakusui. Water is sprinkled on the surface during the production process resulting in lace-like patterns, which gives rise to its other name – kagerō no hane (lit. dragonfly wing). Rakusui paper is a popular material for making decorative interior partitions and sliding doors, such as fusuma and shōji.

Contains 5 sheets.
