Tenugui – Orange Chrysanthemum

A hand-dyed tenugui, multi-purpose cloth, made of cotton in Tokyo.

£23.00 per item

Tenugui is typically used in Japan as a tea towel or for gift-wrapping or protective wrapping of everyday items such as books and lunch boxes. These tenugui are produced in Tokyo using a specialised dyeing technique. This form of hand-dyeing requires the patterns to be cut out by hand on paper stencils and the dye to be applied repeatedly in multiple layers to produce the desired colours. The process requires the utmost care and precision, but results in fabrics decorated with intricate patterns.

Handwashing recommended.
After washing, leave to dry completely.
Leaving the product soaked in water for prolonged periods can cause the colour to fade.
