Presenting over 40 new works by famous Japanese artist and illustrator, Uno Akira, Kaleidoscope is an artbook that vividly features Uno’s characteristic drawing style through the use of special printing techniques such as embossing, foil stamping and using fluorescent, coloured paper. His illustrations presented in this book are each inspired by Japanese haiku poems, which Uno has included in his drawings.
Uno Akira (also known as Aquirax Uno, b. 1934) is one of Japan’s leading artists and illustrators with a career spanning six decades. In the 1960s and 1970s, he was involved in the Japanese underground art movement, and collaborated in experimental theatre productions. Now, he is best known for his fantastical portraiture, often of timeless characters, finely rendered in pen and ink, though he also frequently uses collage and bright colours. Many of his illustrations feature a mysterious female figure with eyes heavy and intriguing.
