OIGEN was founded in 1852 by Oikawa Genjūrō in Mizusawa, Iwate Prefecture. The foundry began by making cast iron kettles in Nambu Tekki – the style of ironware specific to the region of Iwate – and crafted to endure frequent use in the harsh winter climate of the Tōhoku region. Today, OIGEN artisans handcraft a range of ironware, designed to last a lifetime.
