An iron trivet from Iwate Prefecture, known for its rich history of iron casting, that combines design integrity and durability.
This cast-iron trivet features repeating curves reminiscent of waves. Although made of iron, the flowing lines create a soft visual impression. Solid in construction, four feet provide stable support even for heavy pots containing liquid-rich dishes.
The raised structure creates a layer of air between the trivet and the tabletop, helping to protect the surface from heat. The weight of the iron and its considered design give the piece a distinct presence, even when not in use. Simply placing vegetables or bread on it creates a striking display.
Oigen is a foundry based in Iwate Prefecture, with a history of iron casting that dates back to the mid-19th century.

Tōhoku
Tōhoku consists of six prefectures located in the north-east of Honshu island. This region is known for its hot spring (onsen) resorts, colourful festivals, remote sacred mountains and harsh winters. In 2011, the devastating earthquake and tsunami hit the region hard; however, the massive efforts in reconstruction are proof of the people’s resilience. Urushi (lacquer) ware, ironware and the crafting of kokeshi dolls make up but a few of the local industries in this lesser-visited region of Japan.
