This small bamboo shamoji (a paddle to serve rice) was designed for preparing temakizushi (a variety of sushi that consists of a rolled cone of seaweed filled with rice and other fillings). Temakizushi is a casual form of sushi, often enjoyed at parties where a spread of fillings alongside rice and seaweed is provided so that participants can create their own temakizushi. This compact sushi is usually the size of a palm therefore requires a small bamboo shamoji.
Crafted through the susutake kakō process, the bamboo is steamed and burnished under high pressure, enhancing its durability and resistance to mold and insects.
Bamboo is a natural material with varying grains and patterns, individual items will differ.
