This cast-iron trivet features the characteristic arare (graupel) pattern associated with ironware from Iwate Prefecture. Its size is well suited for supporting teapots or kettles. The rounded, granular protrusions of the arare pattern increase the surface area of the trivet, improving heat absorption and dissipation and helping to retain warmth.
The design reflects the irori (hearth) culture of Iwate, known for its harsh winters, where efficient heat management has long been essential. The trivet embodies this regional heritage, combining practical utility with a subtle visual texture.
