The wine is named after the town of Akeno, Yamanashi Prefecture where it is produced, an area renowned for having the longest sunshine hours in Japan. Nestled amidst towering mountain ranges, the Misawa Vineyard cultivates grapes without herbicides or chemical fertilisers. This elegant red wine is crafted from three grape varieties grown together in one vineyard. The grapes are meticulously selected in the vineyard and the winery where small lots are subject to careful extraction before vinification. The wine is then matured in French oak barrels for 18 months and bottled without excessive fining or filtration.
Akeno has a vibrant ruby colour, fine tannin and lively acidity. The wine highlights the full flavours of cassis and blueberry, complemented by a subtle roasted aroma from the oak barrels and a hint of black pepper.
