Craftspeople often take inspiration from nature to produce new works. The design of this cup was inspired by the morning mist, called asagiri in Japanese. The gentle curves of its silhouette combined with its soft blue pattern produces a subtle expression of floating mist created with a texturing technique called tobikanna.
This type of cup—sakazuki— is used at special occasions and ceremonies such as weddings. In Japan, the ritual exchange of sake cups signifies affirmation, tightening and sanctifying the relationship between the parties.

Not microwave or dishwasher safe.
