A hand-painted cup with striped gosuzome (a dying technique using gosu, a distinctive blue pigment) patterns, crafted in Hasami, Nagasaki Prefecture.

£28 per item

This skilfully painted cup features a blue pattern achieved through gosuzome (a dying technique using gosu, a distinctive blue pigment). The hand-painted lines vary in thickness, creating rich depth in the shades of blue. The straight stretching lines depict a growing scouring rush, forming a familiar striped pattern that embodies the warmth and texture characteristic of folk pottery. Produced in Hasami, Nagasaki Prefecture, the rounded shape is designed to fit comfortably in the hand, with a wall thickness that is ideal for enhancing the drinking experience.

Do not use if cracks, chips or breaks appear.
Do not expose to an open flame or put inside an oven.

There may be fine hairline cracks in the glaze: this is part of the design and occurs due to the difference in shrinkage rate in clay and glaze.
There is iron powder in the glaze which can result in black spots.
Avoid sudden temperature changes, such as immersing the heated cup in cool water, to prevent cracking.
