This incense burner is made for incense that cannot burn on their own and require a separate heat source, such as inkō, ‘pressed incense’, which give off their scent when heated, without releasing smoke. The heat-resistant glass is made to resemble sheets or plates of mica, a heat-conducting, silicate material which is used to slowly transfer heat to the incense without directly burning it. The glass can be inserted into slots at two different heights to adjust the intensity and the heater can easily be disassembled and packed away for travel.
