A finely handcrafted shallow bowl of Takatori ware featuring layered glazes.
This shallow bowl is well suited to dishes with sauces, including noodles, pasta and hearty salads.
The clay sourced from the kiln’s local area is remarkably fine and vitrifies densely during firing. The character of the clay allows vessels to be thrown thin while remaining watertight. After firing at temperatures exceeding 1,200°C, each piece is cooled slowly over three days to prevent thermal shock. Takatori ware is said to have seven glazes. The skilful layering of multiple glazes is one of the hallmarks of the craft and Onimaru Setsuzan Kiln is particularly celebrated for its tea utensils that highlight these techniques.
