Hasami-yaki is a type of Japanese pottery originating in Hasami Town in Nagasaki Prefecture. It has deep roots, dating to the early 17th century. As demonstrated by this long history, Hasami-yaki porcelain carries enduring appeal, stemming from its simple elegance which can easily find a place in a contemporary aesthetic. This soba choko is one such example, where the aesthetics of 400 years of Japanese craftsmanship and modern design converge, creating elegant tableware with folk tradition roots.
This is Japan’s south-west region including the island of Kyūshū and the sub-tropical island chain of Okinawa. Kyūshū was an early centre of Japanese civilization, and offers many historic treasures, modern cities and volcanic natural beauty. It is home to the ports of Kagoshima, Nagasaki and Fukuoka, the porcelain manufacturing centre in Arita and the Tanegashima Space Center launch site.
