These wool tablemats are the creation of Tanaka Yoshiko, founder of Kijinokanōsei (lit. the possibilities of textiles), established in 2022. The table mats are designed to be reversible with each side offering a different pattern. The brand’s name indicates a creative approach that produces new textile designs drawing inspiration from vintage fabric blueprints passed down through generations. Where fabrics typically only have one side intended to be seen, these designs introduce versatility by presenting different designs on either side. Four distinctive textiles have been thoughtfully transformed into table mats.
Chuya
This tweed is designed to resemble flowers and features long floats that create an intriguing plaid pattern. On the reverse side, the structured weave reveals a softer, more delicate appearance.
Uneri
A dark navy and blue check pattern crafted by a meticulous process of untwisting the yarn to straighten it and blending it with nylon for reinforcement. This technique results in a yarn with a fluffy, soft texture and an interesting distortion to the weave.
Matsuribayashi
This tweed features a distinctive design on the outer side, resembling a cluster of dots, while the inner side reveals a pattern of star-like shapes. The vibrant orange and yellow threads, made from a blend of acrylic and wool, add a striking pop of colour. The pattern incorporates long floats, and has undergone extensive testing to minimize defects that otherwise might occur due to the varying elongation and contraction of the yarn.
Hanayuki
This design reimagines a traditional weaving pattern from Dalarna, Sweden, offering a contemporary interpretation of the region’s characteristic motifs. Hand-spun wool and silk yarns are roughly woven into the weft, creating a soft, fluffy texture. The pattern resembles snow gently falling on flowers.

These table mats contain wool, so can shrink if washed. They may also pile under friction.
Avoid soaking in water or machine washing.
In case of staining, blot the stained area with a damp cloth using diluted neutral detergents.
