Yanagi Sori - Wine Glass

Wine glasses designed by esteemed industrial designer, Yanagi Sōri and handcrafted by Hirota Glass in Tokyo.
Yanagi Sōri, an acclaimed industrial designer, produced this wine glass in 1979. This is a reproduction of the design from the established glass maker, Hirota Glass, a long-standing and respected glass manufacturer in Tokyo that inherits its glass culture from the industry developed in the region.
The glass has a curious shape with a voluminous broad stem adding weight and a sense of stability. The form of the curve that unites the stem and the bowl has been meticulously calculated and designed through iterations of three-dimensional models created in plaster casts, an approach for which Yanagi Sōri was known. He believed in designing through physical models and inspecting the fine balance of an object within his own hands.
This wine glass is available in two sizes of S and L. Although created as a wine glass, the size S is suitable for sake and as a vessel for small desserts. As the size L cups are larger in diameter and height compared to the S cups, there is room for pouring a small amount of wine in order to enjoy the aroma that is released. The glass is also a fitting size for taller drinks such as shochu with soda or a beer.
Individual items will differ from one another slightly, due to their handmade nature and natural materials.
Bubbles may be present in the glass as a result of the manufacturing process.
Each piece is hand moulded by a craftsperson, there are individual differences in the thickness of the base.
The glass is not heat-resistant.
Hand wash only, please do not use in dishwasher or microwave.
