A Kuki Hojicha (roasted tea made from steamed green tea stems) that can be brewed hot or cold, by Kyoto-based Ippodo.
Hojicha is a tea made by roasting green tea leaves, giving it a distinctive toasted aroma and relatively low caffeine content. Its mild character makes it suitable for drinking at any time of day. This variation, known as kuki hojicha, is produced by roasting the tea plant stems, lending it a particularly fragrant and gently sweet flavour.
When prepared as a cold infusion in a pitcher, hojicha develops a smooth, rounded taste with a subtle sweetness. It may also be warmed with milk to make a hojicha latte.
Packaged in teabags designed for a 300ml teapot, the tea can be brewed hot or cold.
Hot water: 300 ml, steep for 2 minutes.
Cold water: 300 ml, steep for 20 minutes.
