The KI NO TEA Kyoto Dry Gin is a gin created by The Kyoto Distillery, an artisanal gin producer based in Kyoto Prefecture, in collaboration with tea producers Hori-Shichimeien, founded in the Meiji era in 1879.
Premium-grade teas are sourced from the Uji Region, an area south of Kyoto City, where Hori-Shichimeien is based. A blend of tencha (green tea leaves created to be ground into matcha) and gyokuro (a type of green tea grown in the shade) are distilled for a deep, sweet flavour. The rice spirit base and pure groundwater are both sourced from Tsuki-no-Katsura, a sake brewery based in Fushimi, an area renowned for sake brewing with a reputable history dating back to 1675.
The tasting notes describe a sweet drink with a delicate aroma. On the palate, a gentle sweetness akin to white chocolate gives way to the distinctive flavour of juniper, befoe top notes of roasted green tea scents.
The Kyoto Distillery has received accolades such as the IWSC 2021 International Gin Producer and Gold Award of Global Gin Masters 2022.
