Created by renowned ceramic artist Kiso Shimao, in Seto City, Aichi Prefecture, this yunomi (tea cup) is an excellent example of the defining characteristics of his works, which carry the aesthetics of Oribe-yaki.
Oribe-yaki is a style of Japanese stoneware pottery recognizable for its richly coloured glazes and eccentric forms. Kiso consciously incorporates these aspects, creating vessels of elegant lines with a charming matte glaze of emerald green adding depth to their appearance.
Due to the handmade nature of these products, each piece is one of a kind and there will be individual differences.
Not microwave or dishwasher safe.
Size: H6 cm x Ø4.5 – 7.5 cm
Chūbu
The central Chūbu region is predominantly mountainous, home to the rugged Japan Alps with coasts on both the Sea of Japan and the Pacific Ocean. The region's history has been shaped by its strategic position between the great cities of Kyoto and Tokyo with Nagoya at its heart. Niigata lies to the north while Mt Fuji can be found in the south in Shizuoka Prefecture.
