A photographic record of sumo, documenting tournaments and stable life, with a glossary.
This book is a photographic record of sumo, a sport steeped in ritual and history. It features more than 95 photographs, along with a glossary of sumo terms.
The author was granted access to document a full year of sumo, covering not only major tournaments but also life behind the scenes within wrestlers’ stables. The book captures both the intensity of competition and the wrestlers’ dedication required to perform at the highest level.
Lord K2 (David Sharabani) is a London-born photographer currently based in Tokyo, with a particular focus on sport, especially Muay Thai and sumo.
In documenting sumo culture in Japan, he has been granted rare access to photograph wrestlers both in their stables and at the Kokugikan stadium. In addition to sport, his work also explores urban art. His photographs have been featured in publications such as The Sunday Times and National Geographic.
