This face sponge is made from the corm of konjac plants organically grown in Saku City, Nagano Prefecture, at the base of the Japanese Alps. Konjac is a root vegetable often part of shōjin ryōri, plant-based, vegetarian meals eaten by Buddhist monks in Japan. In the olden days, surplus konjac corm was put through a process of repeated freezing and drying outside during winter, which left behind only the elastic, odourless vegetable fibres that could be used as soft sponges for babies. Konjac sponges are known for their great water retention and can be used to gently clean, exfoliate and moisturise the skin. The konjac plants used to make these sponges are nurtured by the pristine waters of abundant underground springs in the area, fed by the melting snow of the surrounding mountains. The corms of the plants are rich in minerals and antioxidants. As the sponge gets wet, the moisture creates a slightly alkaline membrane around its surface which removes acidic dirt and dead skin even without the need for soap. Free of petroleum-based additives, chemical preservatives and irritants, these sponges are both non-toxic and completely biodegradable.

Recommended to replace after 1 month.
