This vase is produced in Takaoka, a central city of Toyama Prefecture which is known for its well-established metal-casting industry dating from 1609. Takaoka continues to produce 90% of Japan’s copper products today. Nousaku was established in Takaoka in 1916 and produces items for tea ceremony, Buddhist rituals and stylish homeware using a technique known as ‘sand-casting’ in which molten metal is poured into a mould intricately crafted from sand. The process continues in several stages until the item reaches the hands of expert craftspeople for completion, rendering each one ever so slightly different. Brightly coloured flowers and green foliage make a dramatic and eye-catching contrast with this black-brown vase made of alloy brass.

There might be slight differences in weight, texture, size and tone as each piece is handmade.
