This wooden spatula is skilfully hand carved by Makino Yuichi, the owner of Tenuka a store in Kagoshima Prefecture that deals in handcrafted products, some sourced from across Japan. The spatula is crafted from sakaki (Japanese Cleyera), a type of wood commonly used to make chopsticks and combs due to its high density and hard-wearing qualities. Sakaki also holds a religious significance, as it is often offered to a kamidana, a miniature household Shinto altar referred to as the boundary between God and humans.
The wooden spatula has a smooth rounded edge, a form suited for spreads and condiments. One section of the handle features the original bark of the tree, offering another texture and added grip.

Handwash only.
