Called goshuinchō in Japanese, these ‘stamp’ books are used to collect stamps and other details in calligraphy by visitors to Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples in Japan to serve as proof of pilgrimage.
This book is also ideal for creating memos or for use as a scrapbook. The covers are decorated with recreations of age-old patterns which adorn treasures stored in the Shōsōin Repository – a storehouse built around 756-759 CE in the temple complex of Tōdai-ji, Nara.
